My love for photography started when I was 16 and my Dad bought me a book on photography techniques.  I loved how you could capture little moments and have them forever imprinted in an image.  I worked hard for that first camera and once I got it, I rarely put it down.  I had no idea what I wanted to do after high school, so I decided to study what I loved.

I graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College in 1996 with an A.A.S. in Photography.  I loved working in the darkroom and got a job as photo editor at my local newspaper.  During this time I stayed on at the college working as a teachers assistant and darkroom lab technician.  After a couple of years I decided to accept a new job that didn't involve photography.  Technology was changing, and I found I really wasn't doing what I wanted anymore.

In 2004 my daughter was born and I pulled my trusty Pentax K1000 out of storage and started capturing all of the little moments that made up our days.  I rediscovered what had drawn me to photography in the beginning.

I bought my first digital camera several years ago and started taking online courses to learn how to process and enhance my work without a darkroom.  I discovered I loved photographing the people and places that make up my life and that is what had been missing.

I decided in 2013 to set a small website to share my work on, and titled it My Story Photography.  I had no idea that it would blossom into so much more.  I am thankful for all the wonderful people I have gotten to work with and places I have been because of this little business.

I currently photograph families, children, newborns, and seniors.  I do most of my work in Oneida and Lewis County, but will occasionally travel further.  I continue to take several courses a year to stay up to date on new techniques and I hope my work continues to grow and improve.  I also started to do some photo restoration this year.

Most of the photographs on my website are available for sale and can be ordered directly from the photo pages. Please email me at SoniaLHernandez@mystoryphoto.com with any questions or to book a session, and to all of my customers, thank you for letting my share your stories!
