Remembering The Halloween of my Childood

When I think of the Halloween season, I don't think of bright lights and blow up decorations, store bought costumes, or bags overflowing with candy.  The Halloween I remember as a child consisted of homemade costumes, and cold dark nights.  Pumpkins lite with candles, and creative decorations made of wood, paper, and discarded clothing.  My Halloween consisted of long rides in the backseat of the car and stopping at farmhouses along the way to collect my treats.  The highlight was always my grandma's porch all dark and spooky.  Her old tapedeck playing ghostly sounds, and my Grandpa waiting to jump out and scare us.

When I came across a posting on facebook from one of my cousins showing pictures of his yard, I knew I had to make the drive to capture what he had done on film. He had dug out the old family decorations from his childhood, and had added a few of his own. He had recreated some of the images from my memories.

I hope in some way you are inspired to create your own family traditions this fall season, and maybe bring back some old ones.  I know I will enjoy passing mine down to my daughter, and helping her create her own wonderful memories.

Have a Happy Spooky Halloween
